The Old Northside–Delaware Street. What a magnificent street she was! Many have referred to this stretch of the Old Northside as “The Gold Coast” and seeing homes like these, one after another…the title definitely resonates!
The “front yard” in the foreground belonged to my perennial favorite, The Bates-Allen-Parry-McGowan Mansion on the corner of 13th and Delaware. Best I can tell, the only one still standing is the Talbott House (brick Italianate, 4th one to the right). The home on the left was that of Joseph Sharpe, Jr. The one that looks like the Morris-Butler House with the tower, belonged to Medford B. Wilson
This home was just south of the Sharpe home, and belonged to John W. Schmidt in 1910. Want to see it in context? Go to www.whatwasthere.com and find this on the map! Thank you to Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission for photos.
