An ad for The Sherman House appeared in the July 3 article on 1850s and 1860s adverts. Interesting to note that in the basement of this particular hotel, was a basement bar. Why don’t we have more of those these days? This was one of the many located convenient to “The Depot.”

Above is the 1887 Sanborn, showing Sherman House at the corner of Louisiana and McCrea. Note that the “Union Depot” was still in use, as the “Union Station” would not be completed until the next year.
