Can’t say this enough: a school like this makes all the difference–if you haven’t heard of Herron High School, you should check them out! Perhaps you haven’t been in the area for awhile, and may remember it as The John Herron Art Instsitute. The art school students have since relocated to the IUPUI campus, but what a replacement we got! Way to go, Herron High School for the fine example you are setting! Herron High School is what you’ll see from Minx, (January’s sponsor of Ladies Lounge, on Mondays). Why couldn’t I have had an awesome vintage shop across the street from my high school?! *sigh*
There’s a lot of great things to say about Herron High School! My daughter is a freshman and we love the education and experience she is getting.
I’ve been meaning to check out Minx and the new 111 Cakery, too.
I graduated from the John Herron Art Institute in 1987 and especially remember the great Halloween dances that we used to hold in this building. It also held the art gallery and the library downstairs and the senior painting studios upstairs. Prior to 1970, this building housed the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
A lot of Herron students lived either in the Penn Arts or Picadilly apartment buildings, as well as in some of the nearby old houses.
The senior class pictures were posed on the steps of the building, just visible above the hats.
