From March 1896, check out these adverts from local bicycle companies and stores and the companion “Riding Academy” or “Riding School.” The definition of such a thing has made big changes since then.

Indianapolis had a huge, thriving biking culture in the late 1890’s–isn’t it fascinating how we are experiencing a renaissance of this long-time favorite outdoor activity. Makes you wonder where the favorite biking trails of the 1890’s were–and what the ‘road conditions’ were.

Wonder if people rode around inside the Cyclorama Building on their Waverley, learning to ride a bicycle?
