Thinking about the current issue we face with demolitions on the docket for Indianapolis got me thinking about other eras that did mass destruction to the city. We lost a LOT of amazing architecture between the 1950s and 1970’s, especially. Observing the same neighborhood for a period of years (I’ve only been here for 8 years) has seen impressive improvements, and this can be the future for more challenged properties. Let’s look at a few changes on the east side of the 2000 block of New Jersey Street in Herron-Morton Place. What if one of these had been deemed ‘worthy’ of demolition? Please check out the Stop the Demolitions, Indianapolis page on facebook to see some of the recent candidates for destruction…

LOVE IT!!! Many people do not realize how beautiful the houses are in Indianapolis due to their wear and misuse.
I was just walking past 2065 N NJ yesterday and noticing how good it looked. I’m so thankful for the neighbors who repeatedly took a stand against the historically destructive changes that were attempted there!
WOW!!! How fantastic! Thanks for posting!!! 😀
