For Valentine’s fifty-eight years ago, couples could attend several Valentine dances around the city. The biggest highlight though was the Count Basie performance at Tomlinson Hall on the evening of February 15th. Tickets were a steal at $1.80.

Saw the Count in a public concert at the Phi Gamma Delta house at IU in 1955. Exciting to see him right there in the room. A great night. Louie Armstrong appeared on a stage in the Men’s Quad in the same semester. Amazing times.
